Frank Fox of EABiotech Ltd, winner of the John Logie Baird Awards - Innovator of the Year 1999 receiving his award from Prof. Malcolm Baird, son of John Logie Baird.

The John Logie Baird Awards were established by Scottish Innovation on the centenary of the inventor's birth to celebrate the name of Scotland's best known inventor. These awards are the longest running national innovation awards, initiated in 1989, and hugely supported by the Scottish Office, Scottish Enterprise and the Local Enterprise Networks as well as private sector sponsors. John Logie Baird struggled to achieve market acceptance for his product. A situation which still exists and is a real problem for inventors to this day. It was with this in mind that Scottish Innovation, therefore, set up these awards to help budding entrepreneurs fulfil their dreams Many distinguished people and well-known innovators have honoured theses awards by presenting the prizes and include:-

  • HRH Prince Philip
  • Lord MacDonald of Tradeston
  • Alasdair Morrison, Deputy Minister for Highlands and Gaelic
  • Sir Clive Sinclair
  • Professor Enro Rubic (Rubic Cube fame)
  • Sir James Black (Scottish Nobel Prize winner for Medicine.)
  • Helen Sharman (Britains's First Astronaut)
  • Des Llewelyn - James Bond's personal inventor 'Q'
